Amy Schumer – Doing the Snark

Amy Schumer delivered an open letter to Tampa, Fla., two days after about 200 audience members walked out of her show there when she mocked Donald Trump.

The comedian and writer read the letter at a performance in Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night in New York City, People reports.

“Dearest Tampa, I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now,” she said. “How could I think it was OK to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”

Are you serious?

Talking about what you believe in is irrelevant to their behavior. Just like how Amy Schumer has every right to talk about what she wants, other people have every right to not listen.

That’s a fundamental aspect of free speech.

Sometimes you have to block twitter trolls, sometimes you have to choose to not respond to sexually harassing messages on tumblr, and sometimes you have to choose to leave a presentation or performance because it’s not offering you any value.

That’s how things go and there’s nothing really wrong with it. What is wrong though… is being rude and making a big fuss about it (regardless of whether you’re the performer or the audience member).

She also asked whether a Trump supporter could get up on stage and explain his or her enthusiasm for the Republican candidate. When some members of the audience booed, the 35-year-old comedian invited them to leave, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

The Times reported that about 200 people walked out of the Amalie Arena—about 1% of the stadium’s capacity. “I don’t want to hear that. We wanted to have a good night without distractions with the politics,” one spectator told the publication.

Yeah, I’ve always wanted to go on stage with a comedian at a large event and have them skewer me for my feelings???

We wanted to have a good night without distractions with the politics

I feel like that’s a sentiment we all can understand… well all of us minus Amy Schumer apparently.

I feel like this whole thing is a non issue and people have every right to not listen to her… Frankly, I don’t want to hear anything Amy Schumer has to say either and I’m not really even political.

I guess she should write some snark about me too then…
