A brief note on journalism in the modern world… in other words “yeah good luck with that”……
The news landscape is complicated and there is always another side to the story. Enter Discors, which today launched an iOS app and announced it has raised a healthy stack of Benjamins to help people get a deeper view on what’s going on in the world.

The company covers the day’s top stories with an approach of “I’ll take just the facts, please.”
Yeah, hate to break it to you but people are inherently biased… If you believe in ‘unbiased journalism’ than you’re either willfully ignorant or being facetious.
Also, what is and is not factual is completely subjective. Just because a journalist wrote something down… that doesn’t make it true. Whether or not you trust the journalist or publication is irrelevant to that.

You know who I totally trust and totally think of as “the world’s best journalism”?
The misguided folks @ CNN, The Guardian, Bloomberg View, Foreign Policy, Tronc, The Washington Post and cryptically… “others“.
The Economist is probably one of the best publications to ever exist and you still need to take what they say with a grain of salt… especially when it comes to things like US or UK politics.
“We think the best way to understand the news is to hear what a handful of really smart people have to say about it,” the founders explain, encouraging people to make up their own minds.
You see, the problem with that is people…
- Overestimate their intelligence.
- Become entrenched in the thought line that they’re right and everybody else is wrong.
- Think that because they’re really really smart they understand everything… meaning they comment on things they have no expertise in and because of #2 never approach things with the thought “i don’t understand but would like to understand”.
Ultimately Discors has set itself up to filter out the opinionated commentary and biases of people they don’t like and instead will exclusively offer up the biases and opinionated commentary of people they do like.
