Apparently Mike Johnson is an immoral little poop and that’s a statement I’m sticking to. Mike Johnson is of the opinion that California does not deserve aid because officials were “derelict in their duties”. Which makes a lot of sense right?
ASHINGTON, Jan 13 (Reuters) – Top Republicans in the U.S. Congress are considering imposing conditions on disaster aid to Los Angeles communities devastated by wildfires, after President-elect Donald Trump claimed that state and local officials had mishandled the situation.
House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Monday that leading officials in the Democratic-led state mismanaged water resources and forests in the Los Angeles area before six simultaneous blazes tore across the second-largest U.S. city, claiming the lives of at least 24 people.“It appears to us that state and local leaders were derelict in their duty in many respects. So that’s something that has to be factored in,” Johnson told reporters in the U.S. Capitol.
“There should probably be conditions on that aid. That’s my personal view. We’ll see what the consensus is,” he said.…
Because if there’s one thing we all know… a handful of people derelict in their duties means that EVRYONE should be punished. And what does that even mean? Derelict in their duties? These aren’t US Army generals here.
Unfortunately no large city or even state is prepared for wildfires of this size, complexity, and sheer ferocity. None. While I’m sure there’s plenty of people who did not act or acted poorly in the face of danger I’m pretty sure that doesn’t mean punishments should be handed out by the federal government to an entire state.
We have not taken fire preparedness in this country seriously since the beginning of time. We do not devote the resources necessary to protect the values at risk. We do not have the aircraft necessary to support multiple fires across the United States. We do not have the resources to stop a conflagration. We don’t have jack squat compared to the resources necessary to protect against insane fires exacerbated by climate change. And because of federal government inaction that will not change soon. Basically if you’ve got forest near you, you’re screwed. If you’ve got dry grasslands near you, you’re screwed. If you’ve got anything flammable in general near you, you’re screwed. You can thank the federal government and your state for that. You are screwed every single fire season (which is now all year round).
It seems like Mike Johnson has no interest in any of the realities of firefighting. At least I haven’t heard him show any interest.
Ultimately I’m of the opinion that this is an attempt to get back at Democrats for being Democrats. That this is an attempt at persecution for political beliefs. That this is a genuine “screw you” to a state that happens to vote Democrat, as if it isn’t part of the United States but is rather an enemy of the United States. If that’s what Republicans are doing it is truly immoral. I guess Donald Trump will be pleased though.
I’m not sure there’s much else to it.
