Revolting Rhymes, Dirty Beasts, and Dirty Sluts

This book is absolutely deserving of the title ‘Revolting Rhymes‘…

While I find Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts to be appropriate and enjoyable… you may not feel that way if you’re sensitive to phrases like ‘dirty slut’. I mean, I don’t think I would want my toddler plodding around repeating ‘dirty slut’. Thankfully, I do not have one.

Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts

Did you think Cinderella married the prince and lived happily ever after, or that the three little pigs outsmarted the wolf? Think again! Master storyteller Roald Dahl adds his own darkly comic twists to six favorite tales, complete with rambunctious rhymes and hilarious surprise endings.

Roald Dahl’s inimitable style and humor shine in this collection of poems about mischievous and mysterious animals. From Stingaling the scorpion to Crocky-Wock the crocodile, Dahl’s animals are nothing short of ridiculous. A clever pig with an unmentionable plan to save his own bacon and an anteater with an unusually large appetite are among the characters created by Dahl in these timeless rhymes. This new, larger edition is perfect for listening.

So that’s the description from the Audible version of Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts.

Below, is a screencap of the Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts description for the paperback version on Amazon.com.

Revolting Rhymes verse

If you can’t read that, it says: “The Prince cried, ‘Who’s this dirty slut? Off with her nut! Off with her nut!'”

So yeah, a kids book with the phrase dirty slut.

I feel people do a disservice to Roald Dahl when they describe his books as dark. We should probably invent a whole new word to describe his kids books.

Who knew, a kids book about Dirty Sluts!

A Note on the Audible Audiobook

The audiobook offered on Audible.com, but not currently offered as an Audible download on Amazon.com, is neato. You’ll like it. The narration is clear, the sound quality is great, and it’s unabridged.
