Another day, another occasion for people to whine and say “dont say that!!!”
Today, we have the biggest crybabies of them all… politicians.
Politicians who dislike a person’s painting
David Pulphus’ painting…
Which just happens to depict things that have occurred in his, and his Representative’s, community.

The painting, Untitled #1, by former Missouri high school student David Pulphus, has been on display in a well-trafficked Capitol hallway since June 2016.
Pulphus is a resident of Clay’s congressional district which includes Ferguson, Mo., a town marked by civil unrest after the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, a black 18-year-old, by a white police officer, Darren Wilson.

Clay said Pulphus’ painting offers a glimpse into how a young man views the world. “It’s a collage of different scenes that this kid has experienced over the last five years,” he said.
…Rep. Duncan Hunter Jr., R-Calif., a former Marine, who took it upon himself last week to remove the painting from the hallway and deliver it back to Clay’s office. Hunter, who is white, argued the painting is disrespectful to law enforcement, and violates rules that govern what is acceptable art to hang in the Capitol complex.

I am really having difficulty imagining how thin a person’s skin has to be for them to find that painting disrespectful…
For one thing, respect is earned… it is not inherent.
If the painting is representative of David’s life and his community… who the hell is anybody to say that the police officers in his community deserve respect? Pretty sure it isn’t somebody from California.
For another, just two cops are shown with the heads of boars.
Is that really something to get upset over?
I mean really, the entire painting is planes of symbolism moving forward, step by step, toward the viewer… the cops are just one part of it.
It really is a nice painting and how people could think that removing it because it upsets them is acceptable behavior is beyond me.

An Afterword
Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if this painting became symbolic in more ways than the symbolism found in the painting… If certain politicians keep fussing over a constitutionally protected bit of speech… well that’d just be fitting for our current social environment wouldn’t it.
