So a short note about the The Roald Dahl Audio Collection!
The Roald Dahl Audio Collection, an audiobook available on Amazon and Audible.com, is an abridged version (meaning shortened versions of the stories) of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Enormous Crocodile, and The Magic Finger.
The Roald Dahl Audio Collection is however narrated by Roald Dahl! Which is becoming more and more unusual… Roald Dahl’s audiobooks are being updated with new narrators. Kate Winslet even did the Matilda audiobook. These narrators however are widely criticized for their performances… like in James and the Giant Peach, narrated by Julian Rhind-Tutt, the sound is so sporadic it’s tough to listen to unless you’re right next to the speaker. He goes from nearly shouting to nearly whispering inside a paragraph, making it so hard to hear.
So be aware the newer versions of Roald Dahl’s books may very well have sound level issues… If you have a child who is hard of hearing, or plan to have the speaker at a distance, you might be very disappointed with the newer Roald Dahl audiobooks.
