An Update on the onn. 12.1″ Tablet Pro 128GB (2024 Model) – Screen Failure

So I wrote previously about the onn. 12.1″ Tablet Pro 128GB (2024 Model) and found it to be a good midrange tablet. The screen was large and sharp, the memory and processor were acceptable, and it came with a cute matching charger.

Except it’s been one month and my screen is starting to fail lol

That big beautiful screen, the main reason to get a 12 inch tablet, is turning off all on its own. I cannot find a fix.

So beware of this tablet, they may have pushed the quality down too far to keep costs down and maintain that $180 price tag. I have no idea what I was expecting with a tablet this large with that low of a price tag. You may want to reconsider this tablet as a holiday gift! Nothing worse than giving someone the gift of talking to customer support for 5 hours.

If your screen is beginning to fail please comment below!

  1. Hello, I’ve just got the tablet a few days ago and have been really enjoying it. But I did notice the screen will turn completely black and then back to the normal.

I haven’t been able to replicate the issue consistently, even when trying what you said in your other article. It doesn’t happen too often, but when it does, it’s usually when the screen is just sitting idle for a few seconds while I’m reading something. The backlight seems to still be on.

I updated the device as soon as I got it and I already changed the screen timeout settings. Sometimes the blackout happens as I’m just scrolling normally. Never lasts for more than a second though. Like, if you blinked at the same time it happens, you can miss it.

It hasn’t been real intrusive and is easy to ignore. So I’m hoping it’s just a small software bug with the tablet drm or something. Since you’re saying the screen is failing and turning off. Is it like the way I described it or is it happening for a prolonged period of time. Do you need to reset the tablet or anything?

    1. Sounds like the same issue! I do think that the initial issue was software related and they may very well fix it with an update… but unfortunately my tablet’s screen is becoming unreliable. The blackout time has increased, sometimes turning the screen off entirely, and it’s no longer just with videos. This may be specific to my tablet. The tablet is great and I’m enjoying it too but this screen thing needs to get worked out! I’m going to do some more work on the problem. Thanks for commenting, it’s helpful for everyone.
