Dubious Ethics at the National Enquirer & D Trump’s Apparently Affair Filled Life

the donald!!! going after all the women all the time!!! it’s almost like he has issues and does this shit compulsively!!!

Another story concerning Media Ethics has now fallen into my lap! Fun!

This time it’s another Donald Trump related thing… an extra-marital affair NOT covered by the National Enquirer…

The company that owns the National Enquirer, a backer of Donald Trump, agreed to pay $150,000 to a former Playboy centerfold model for her story of an affair a decade ago with the Republican presidential nominee, but then didn’t publish it, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the matter.

The tabloid-newspaper publisher reached an agreement in early August with Karen McDougal, the 1998 Playmate of the Year. American Media Inc., which owns the Enquirer, hasn’t published anything about what she has told friends was a consensual romantic relationship she had with Mr. Trump in 2006. At the time, Mr. Trump was married to his current wife, Melania.

Quashing stories that way is known in the tabloid world as “catch and kill.”

In a written statement, the company said it wasn’t buying Ms. McDougal’s story for $150,000, but rather two years’ worth of her fitness columns and magazine covers as well as exclusive life rights to any relationship she has had with a then-married man. “AMI has not paid people to kill damaging stories about Mr. Trump,” the statement said.

Another affair! Sad! That’s just sad!

Lies surely!

Except not really. Well, I mean, she could in theory be lying. But that seems unlikely. There really is not benefit to her lying now.

She’s already gotten her benefits from the National Enquirer you see…

The National Enquirer in essence paid Karen McDougal off to keep her mouth shut. That really is how it looks.

It seems to me that the National Enquirer lured her in with a fat wad of cash while simultaneously providing itself with an excuse for that fat wad of cash by running her fitness articles. I’m sure she also felt that the National Enquirer running her articles would also give her a career a leg up… I mean, vanity publishing exists for a reason. Some people set a lot of store in seeing their words in print.

A contract reviewed by the Journal gave American Media exclusive rights to Ms. McDougal’s story forever, but didn’t obligate the company to publish it and allowed the company to transfer those rights. It barred her from telling her story elsewhere. The company said it also would give her monthly columns to write and would put her on magazine covers.

Oh yeahhhh… not suspicious at all!

The National Enquirer bought her story, while requiring she never tell it herself, and never ran the story!

Totally okay… all above-board surely!

Okay you and I both know that’s bullsquirt.

It’s quite clear that the National Enquirer bought Karen McDougal off so that Donald Trump’s affair wouldn’t get out while simultaneously creating an excuse for itself by saying it was related to Karen’s other articles.

What else is there to this? Nothing. It’s all bullsuirt. Everything is bullsquirt. The media is bullsquirt. Life is bullsquirt.

Media Ethics Score: 0 / 10 (blatant bullshit masquerading as acceptable behavior)

  1. Honestly you’ve got to wonder about the mental health of a man who has this many women saying he either assaulted them, had an affair with them, or behaved inappropriately in general…
