Scalpers Raid Costco for Pokemon Tin Boxes

It seems scalpers have raided Costco for Pokemon tin boxes. A new box filled with 5 151 Scarlet & Violet tins has shown up at Costcos across the country and people are going nuts for them. Scalpers have quickly caught on and have been trying to purchase near enough all of the supply of these boxes whenever they hit the floor at Costco.

Scalpers and people in general are being ridiculous. This is completely asinine.

But it’s not the only example of scalpers and people acting crazy in recent days. There have been photos of people with almost the entire pallet of 151 tin boxes on a cart. Some apparently have purchased the entire pallet once it hits the floor. Do you know how much money buying an entire pallet takes? A lot.

I do not understand why people feel this behavior is acceptable. By scalping and hoarding, all you’re doing is demeaning the hobby. You make it about making a quick buck. You price gouge unsuspecting parents and kiddos. It’s the behavior of an a-hole. Because scalpers aren’t reselling to make $5, they’re reselling at more than double the original price. Scalpers are selling tin boxes for as much as $100. Their sale price at Costco is $38. How is that kind of behavior okay?

I understand 151 is a great set and supplies are limited, but that’s actually an argument for consuming 151 products in moderation, and is not an argument for scalping and hoarding. Politeness matters. Leaving some product for others is the polite thing to do. You do not need 10 boxes of tins, you do not need to spend $400 on your Pokemon hobby, by leaving some boxes you save money and be polite.

I mean, are you keeping track of how much you’re spending? Because I bet you cannot tell me with a straight face that 10 boxes are your only Pokemon purchases. You and I both know this hobby is sucking up your cash.

On top of that do you really want to buy into hype? 151 is nice and all, but why not save your cash for the rumored upcoming Team Rocket set? That’ll be fun and you can avoid a fist fight in Costco for a pallet of shiny cardboard.

Hype, politeness, scalping, a-holes, moderation… those are your keywords. The point is ultimately to just not be an a-hole.
