Star Wars’ Other Stories

This just in from the front lines of the gossip wars…

Page Six, a gossip and culture spinoff of the New York Post, reported yesterday that Disney executives are unhappy with the current version of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the spinoff that’s supposed to tell the story in between Star Wars episodes III and IV. According to anonymous sources, the movie is now scheduled for an “expensive reshoot” over the summer, ahead of its December release.
A source elaborated that, “the movie isn’t testing well” and “Disney won’t take a back seat.”

The Testing and Re-shoot

This seems unsurprising to me… Disney is trying to turn secondary plot lines that were originally meant for more interested fans into feature films for everybody. Who the heck would expect one of those stories to ever be taken well by a more general audience when they’re so used to the standard good versus evil *boOM* *crash* *R2-D2 weeee* Star Wars films?

Disney is expecting each and every one of their six new Star Wars films to be blockbusters so I imagine failure in any sense is not an option. My bet is they’ll shoot and shoot until they feel it’ll be well received by audiences.

There really isn’t much to talk about honestly… we still don’t know what the full plot line for Rogue One will be, we don’t even know all the characters names. Which seems weird to me because Rogue One only has 6 months to go until it hits theaters… you’d think we’d have more stuff to talk about… but no. Just gossip stuff.

The Abstract

If you’re a Star Wars fan, this could be bad news. Disney executives want a re-shoot of Rogue One and that’s going to cost them a crap ton of money regardless of how what percentage of the film is getting redone… but that re-shoot won’t actually bring them in more ticket sales… it’ll only avoid the inevitable ‘this film sucked‘ response from fans. Now, what do executives at big bloated companies like Disney hate? High overhead and little profit. Movies like that gets the ax real quick… meaning that the expanded universe Star Wars fans are so interested in experiencing may never come to fruition. I’m not sure that’ll end up being the case, but it might *shrugs*
