Okay, here we go. We’ll make it real brief.
Matt Mullenweg, WordPress Developer and founder of Automattic, criticized WP Engine, a major WordPress host. He basically said WP Engine does not contribute to the WordPress community. That’s fine, criticism happens, get over it right?
Well then WP Engine sent a Cease and Desist to Automattic because of that criticism. Are you serious?
Matters then get worse.
Automattic then sent its own cease and desist to WP Engine over its use of the WordPress Trademark.
And now Matt claims, on X, that WP Engine “hacked” the WordPress dashboard on its servers to stop people from reading his blog post about WP Engine.
Then WP Engine users, see Reddit, noticed that plugins no longer work correctly on their WordPress installs. This problem only seems to occur on WP Engine.
None of this is appropriate.
WP ENgine and Matt Mullenweg are members of a community larger than both of their egos and yet they’re attempting to tear each other down using that community.
WP Engine and Matt Mullenweg need to cut this shit out.
