Steve Zissou, a famous oceanographer, plots revenge on a weird ass jaguar shark that killed his partner. Steve Zissou then grabs a crew made up of his estranged wife, a journalist, and a man who may or may not be his son to hunt down this shark.
What on earth did I just watch?
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, starring Bill Murray as Steve Zissou, is just… odd.
The music reminds me of There’s Something About Mary.
The cast has some oddly big names (Jeff Goldblum, Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson) for a small budget film ($25 million).
The genre is also odd. Is it a comedy, is it a dark comedy, or is it just dark? But that seems to be the directors forte (Moonrise Kindgdom’s genre was also odd).
And the relationships are weirdly intermingled. Is Owen Wilson Bill Murray’s son or what. Hell if I know.
SO at the end of the day, The Life Aquatic is a colorful film with some nice musical tones but a slightly confusing plot line that will leave you thinking what the heck did I just watch.
But good luck.
And if you ever figure out whether or not Ned Plimpton is in fact Steve’s son let me know.
