So Pokemon card set reprints for 151 and Prismatic Evolutions is probably not going to happen.
People’s constant argument is that “oh well the set is making The Pokemon Company tons of money so of course they’re going to reprint it!!!” and it’s a poor one. I’ll tell you why, Pokemon sets are more than likely planned out 2 years in advance. They don’t just randomly pull sets out of their butts. They have to do the artwork, story, work with the games, print cards, assemble products, and distribute. There’s plenty to do and it takes time.
As special sets 151 and Prismatic Evolutions probably won’t get anymore attention beyond the pre-planned products. They MIGHT get reprints of booster bundles. But The Pokemon Company most likely can’t just add in more print runs, it would not make sense for them to just have extra capacity, spare time, laying around. I’m not saying it’s impossible for The Pokemon Company to adjust printing schedules to allow for more product to be made but my bet is they’re focused on finishing the current run and moving on to the next planned run.
The point is it is not as easy as adding in another print run immediately and magically getting product on shelves. And the thought that immediate profit motive alone will determine print runs is silly. There’s more to it than just calling up the printers and going “more more more!”
On top of that The Pokemon Company most likely does not want to overproduce product of special sets. Just like in Magic the Gathering with their collector booster boxes Pokemon needs a low production product to give the appearance of scarcity and boost hype. That’s just business.
Ultimately nobody on reddit will be able to tell you whether or not a set will get reprints until it’s upon us. I’m just speculating like the people of reddit are but naturally I think I’m right. There probably won’t be a reprint for Prismatic Evolutions and 151 beyond the pre-planned products like Blooming Waters. It’d be nice to be proven wrong now. I’d definitely like some more 151 at MSRP.
